Not a good value, considering no free shipping!
By momoftwinz - January 1, 2009Ok yes, Lego sets are heavy, but hear me out here: Standard retail markup starts at 35% (stores purchase Lego sets directly from Lego at wholesale and markup 35%-50%: 50% when sold at everyday MSRP prices, and dropping to 35-40% profit when on sale) so in this case Lego is making that 50% profit (when you buy at full MSRP at Lego.com) or in other words, making the profit themselves that they normally don't even receive at wholesale... so WHY no free shipping? They're making WAY more when you buy at Lego.com than if you buy their product at any other store, so there really is no value added to the buyer in purchasing from Lego.com--they don't give free shipping, they still charge tax, it's just a lose-lose for the buyer. At least buying Lego on Amazon.com you get free shipping!
