Walgreens 101: How to Save More
Walgreens is there when you need them the most—at awkward hours of the night, when you injure yourself at the gym, when you’re stocking up on leftover Halloween candy, and all of those moments in between. Whether you’re planning ahead or experiencing a bind at 2 in the morning, Walgreens has you covered. For those emergency moments, you’re better off visiting an actual, physical store (or getting on the phone with a doctor), but if you’re planning a shopping list, you have some more options.
Planning a trip to Walgreens? Use these pointers to help you get the most out of what you’re spending:
Walgreens features sales events.
Throughout the year, the Walgreens Friends and Family event features percent-off and dollar-off discounts. Keep an eye open for this event when you’re shopping, and check online to make sure that it’s happening before visiting an actual store. It’s a great opportunity to stock up and save on items that you know you’ll need but never think about needing—like ointment, band-aids, pens, and more. Just think about the stuff that you think about the least, and you’ll realize that you should probably buy it.
The shipping policy is awesome.
Prescription refills always ship free. Everyday orders of $25+ also ship free. If you end up regretting your purchase, remember that in-store returns are always an option. In other words, when you buy something online and decide that you want to return it, you can just take it to your local Walgreens instead of shipping it back. Hassle averted!
The couponing potential is limitless.
Walgreens deals are endless! Experienced bargain-hunters know that there are boundless savings opportunities from rebates to instant-value coupons, online promotions, and more. Luckily, Walgreens organizes these deals in one place on this site, so you can quickly compare and match instant value coupons with rebate offers. You can even cross-compare web promotions with their weekly circular. Best of all, you can find all this information without walking into a physical store.
Fan of the Walgreens weekly ad, but don’t want to visit a store? No problem.
You can search for the weekly ad online, and you can sign up for weekly reminders. You decide what you want to see, what you don’t want to see, and when you shop. It’s super convenient to do your research before visiting an actual store.
The after-sale clearance events are incredible.
You need to visit an actual Walgreens location for this one, but trust us—you’ll be glad that you did. At almost every Walgreens, there’s a seasonal section that changes between major events like Halloween, Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, etc. Once the event ends, Walgreens tends to have an assortment of leftover inventory, and they slash prices to make sure that it sells. If you’re someone who likes to stock up on gift wrap, candy, cards, and other seasonal items, you should head to Walgreens immediately after a holiday. Keep an eye out for coupons so that you can combine offers.
Take advantage of your AARP membership.
If you’re an AARP member, then you’re eligible for special discounts and rewards. Just make sure that you keep your AARP card with you when you shop. You’re also eligible for an additional 5% in discounts when you shop online. If you check back on the Walgreens website every month, you’ll see coupons that are exclusive to your AARP membership.
Use register rewards.
These are manufacturer coupons that print from a machine at the register after you complete your transaction. You can only have a 1:1 ratio when using the coupon on products, and you can use up to a maximum of three of these. Otherwise, the machine might beep at you. If you'd like to use more than one RR, you'll need to do it in separate transactions. If you do not have enough coupons or products, you may need to buy an inexpensive filler item like a pencil or pen. Even if you do buy a filler item; however, your ultimate goal will be to save money. To get the RR, you need to make sure that you are buying enough of a product in the right quantity.
The bottom line
Few and far between have sat back to think about extra ways that we can save at always. So, we decided to do just that for everyone who hasn’t done it. Rethink your next Walgreen’s trip so that you’re maximizing your savings when it’s time to pay. Also, keep in mind that Walgreens publishes the store coupon policy in a public place, and there is a telephone number that you can call if you're confused. The phone number is 1-800-WALGREENS or 1-800-925-4733. To be certain, you can even print a copy of the store's coupon policy and keep it with you.
